Senators Joe Liberman and (especially) Ben Nelson have told the House in no uncertain terms that if the bill that comes out of reconciliation is not, in effect, the bill they agreed to out of the Senate, then they will vote against final passage. They have pointed a gun to the head of the Lower House and have defied them to push for anything more then what the two of them say they want and to hell with what anyone else wants. They have decided that they and they alone run this country. I say they are wrong. They do not have the right to that much power, unless they are willing to declare that they and they alone own our government and are co-dictators.
I know that there are many people in the Democratic Party who are willing to cave into the special interests like these two Senators have. They say ignorant things like "This is the best we can get" or "This is better then nothing" or "Let's pass this and build on it later" or "Well at least it's a small step forward" when they themselves know that those are all bullsh*it reasons and that they do not stand up to the light of day. This bill not only doesn't help, it not only is not a step in the right direction, it is a huge leap backwards in the wrong direction. It doesn't fix a single financial problem with our health care system and in fact makes it much, much, much worse.
I say we call Liberman's and Nelson's bluff and force this down their throats and if they don't like it then damn it make them filibuster! Make them stand in the well of the Senate and read the Bible or the phone book or the complete works of Shakespeare on C-SPAN while the rest of America looks and sees just how sad and pathetic and wrong they are! And, if after that, the bill still fails, then so be it. It is a bad bill and the concept of something is better then nothing is complete sell out garbage.
Some people have asked those like me who are opposed to what has drizzled out of the as*shole of the Senate "Well, what would you do? You don't have the votes to pass the good bill!" To them I say fine. So be it. Let it die. If it makes it out of Congress, then veto it. Kill this! Because passing it not only does not solve the problems of health care, it makes them much, much, much worse! A bad bill, esp in this case and esp considering the bill that has come out of the Senate, is infinitely worse then no bill at all.
Yes our current system is unsustainable, it really, really, really is, but we will only be feeding that same beast by passing this bill, not helping to solve this problem. This bill will make the current situation much worse! This bill is like being horribly behind on your credit card and now you're going to pass a law that makes it even easier for your credit card provider to pile on more interest, more fees and more penalties! It does not a god-damned thing to stop the insurance companies and in fact, makes it easier for them to steal from us.
This bill will only hasten the crash that is to come so why should we make it easier for the insurance companies to rape us by passing this bill when all it does is no different then if we are unzipping the insurance companies pants and begging them to try harder to screw us? Show me one thing, just one, ONE DAMN THING, that improves on what we have when it comes to them screwing us for more money? Just ONE. You can not because it's just not there.
This is far too important not to do right and right now we are headed toward (and I hate more then anything to say this) passing something that Barack Obama can try to claim as a success, when it is in reality nothing more then corporate welfare to the insurance companies and does nothing more then give them more control. It does not do what health care reform was supposed to do, which was to help avoid a crash and instead slams the accelerator down and speeds up that crash. Instead of us headed toward that brick wall at 50mph, this bill will shove us up to 100mph and no reasonable person can deny that. It does not help fix the problem and is not even a step in the direction of helping to fix the problem. It only makes the problem a whole lot worse and makes the crash come a whole lot sooner.
Kill this abortion of a bill while we still have a chance or bear the responsibility for the horrible mess that is inevitable.
