Earlier today (Dec14th) I was cooking a pork roast and was thinking about the coming Christmas holiday. Now, I'm an atheist and my wife is Jewish, which makes for some strange sort of traditions. It seems as if I'm the only one who remembers to light the candles on the Menorah and she's the only one that sends out holiday cards (and she reveals in finding Jewish/Christian ones to send to our family and friends).
Still, what the coming holiday got me to thinking of was not as much the traditions of the season, as much as the silliness of the season we used to enjoy as children. The truth is one rhyme kept going through my head and here it is.
Jingle bells, Batman smells
Robin laid an egg.
The Bat-mobile, lost a wheel
and Joker got away!
Now of course this is only one of the many simple and silly songs we used to sing as children under different circumstances and Christmas is only one of them. There are also ones that we have all heard different versions of that have nothing to do with any holiday and may have been sung at some form of summer camp like:
Nobody likes me
Everybody hates me
Think I'll eat some worms.
Long skinny slimy ones
Big fat juicy ones
Fuzzy wuzzy little worms.
I know that many of us have heard various variations on these songs, but they're all familiar to one extent or another. We learned some in the summer at camp and some on the playground in 4th or 5th or 6th grade. So the me my children, what is your favorite silly childish song or rhyme? What demon silly song is stuck in your head?
