The 'unitary executive' question

advertisement

Unitarians (for lack of a better word) want to expand the many existing uncheckable executive powers -- such as executive orders, decrees, memorandums, proclamations, national security directives and legislative signing statements -- that already allow presidents to enact a good deal of foreign and domestic policy without aid, interference or consent from Congress. Ardent proponents even insist that there are times when the president -- like a king -- should operate above the law.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I don't want any president, Democratic or Republican, to attain the powers of a king, but that's the direction we're headed in and it needs to be stopped now! The people rule this country, not any monarch, which would be no different then a dictator! This is one issue BOTH major parties should be in agreement on.

Definitely.  I've already seen enough of that mentality to scare the heck out of me.

And now I need to go write an angry letter to Dana Nelson of the LA Times for the use of the word 'unitarian'.  Another word or phrase should have been substituted.  Instead, there may be some ludicrous confusion with the beliefs of Unitarian Universalists.
